Bakul Banthia co-founded Tessell in 2021 to rebuild database management for the cloud. He spent the previous decade at Oracle as a principal engineer on Oracle Enterprise Manager Database and Oracle Fusion Middleware Private Cloud, the tooling enterprise DBAs rely on to keep large estates running. Bakul is a named co-inventor on Tessell's patents for snapshotting ephemeral cloud storage and preventing data loss in volatile storage, the techniques behind the platform's durable NVMe architecture and Availability Machine. At Tessell he leads go-to-market and AI initiatives. He writes on the Tessell blog about multi-cloud strategy, DBaaS economics, data governance, and the reality of running Oracle, SQL Server, and open source engines side by side.
