Steven Kaplan has spent 25 years helping enterprises build the business case for major infrastructure investments. He built two IT companies and sold both to public buyers, then held executive roles in finance and customer strategy where he developed the ROI and TCO frameworks CIOs and CFOs use to evaluate them. His work has covered four platform shifts, from Citrix to virtualization to hyperconverged infrastructure to the cloud, so he has seen how these transitions get justified and where projected savings tend to fall short. He has written nine books, including The ROI Story, and writes for Forbes, where he recently covered how the cloud is changing the DBA role into data engineering. At Tessell he leads the public sector practice, working with federal, state, and local agencies migrating Oracle databases to Azure. He writes on the Tessell blog about cloud economics, migration planning, and cost optimization.
